Building Kozit

Why It's Called kozit

kozit was never supposed to be the app's name. Then ChatGPT brought up pimples, and I asked six friends what they saw in the word.

If you asked what I agonized over most while building this app, it would be the name and the main color. Once you pick them, there’s no easy way back.

The project name came first: Korea, cozy, and 아지트 (azit) — a Korean word for a hideout, a little place that’s yours — squeezed into kozit. I liked the word itself — but back then, I wasn’t planning to use it as the app’s name.

The word looked a bit stiff to me, and I figured a meetup app should have a bouncier name. So for a while I kept looking for one.

But no matter how long I thought about it, nothing better came to mind. When it was finally time to buy a domain, I gave up — fine, whatever — the app would just be kozit too.

Then ChatGPT pointed out that “zit” means a pimple. It said the name was probably fine — unless that was all people could see.

After that, of course, it was all I could see.

So the night before buying the domain, I asked six friends from five different countries what came to mind when they saw the word kozit.

Three said cozy right away. One asked, “Is it an acne cream?” Another said both came to mind — cozy and zit.

And the last one said it reminded them of geojit — the Korean word for a lie. I never saw that answer coming, and it was honestly the funniest one. An app that’s supposed to build trust, with a name that sounds like a lieㅋㅋㅋ

The truth is, I had already made up my mind. I just wanted someone to tell me I was right.

Still — four out of six thought of cozy, and that was enough for me. I bought the domain the very next day.

That’s how this site became kozit.app, and the placeholder name written all over the app was finally replaced with kozit.
